What are the safety guidelines?

Mandatory safety guidelines: preparation, prohibitions, charging rules, and maintenance for your Torks bike.

Safety guidelines — Read before your first ride

BEFORE FIRST USE

Mandatory preparation:

  • Read the entire manual before first use
  • Check the brakes, tyres, and bolt/nut tightness before every ride
  • Fully charge the battery before first use
  • Familiarise yourself with all the bike's functions before riding
  • Know and obey the Swiss traffic code and applicable cantonal laws

Helmet — MANDATORY:

A suitable helmet must:

  • be comfortable for the rider
  • be lightweight
  • provide good ventilation
  • fit snugly
  • cover the forehead

PERSONS NOT PERMITTED TO USE THE BIKE

  • Young children
  • Pregnant women
  • Anyone with vision, balance, or other conditions that prevent them from safely riding a bicycle
  • Anyone under the influence of alcohol, medication, or substances that impair their abilities

STRICT PROHIBITIONS

  • NEVER carry a passenger on the e-bike (the bike is designed for a single rider only)
  • NEVER modify the e-bike with unapproved accessories
  • NEVER ride through deep water
  • NEVER perform wheelies, jumps, or acrobatic stunts
  • NEVER ride after consuming alcohol or taking medication/substances that impair your abilities
  • NEVER lend the bike to someone unfamiliar with how it works
  • NEVER open the electrical components yourself (this voids Torks damage coverage)
  • NEVER plug a power cable directly into the battery — ALWAYS USE THE SUPPLIED CHARGER
  • NEVER dispose of batteries in household waste — take them to an approved recycling centre

USAGE RESTRICTIONS

  • The bike is intended for use on roads and paved paths only
  • Do not use on rough trails (risk of damage to the bike)
  • Maximum total weight: 120 kg (rider + luggage + 24 kg bike)
  • Using a trailer with this bike is prohibited

PRECAUTIONS DURING USE

ALWAYS do the following:

  • ALWAYS wear an approved helmet
  • ALWAYS keep both hands on the handlebars
  • ALWAYS brake gently when riding over rocks or loose surfaces
  • ALWAYS exercise caution when riding through puddles
  • ALWAYS inspect the e-bike before each use
  • ALWAYS use the pedals to assist on climbs or in windy conditions
  • ALWAYS switch off the electrical power when the bike is not in use

AVOID:

  • AVOID riding in the rain for extended periods
  • AVOID any contact between water and the motor or electrical cables

BRAKING AND WEATHER CONDITIONS

  • In bad weather (rain or snow), braking distance increases significantly
  • At 20 km/h on a wet road, braking distance should not exceed 15 metres
  • Check the brakes regularly and adjust them frequently
  • Replace brake pads in good time
  • Contact Torks immediately if you have any doubt about the condition of the brakes

REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND CHECKS

Mandatory checks:

  • Check tyre pressure frequently (low pressure increases rolling resistance and reduces range)
  • Regularly inspect the brakes, tyres, handlebars, and rims
  • Ensure the handlebars do not affect the bike's ability to steer and brake
  • Comply with legal requirements (lights and reflectors are mandatory on public roads)

Maintenance prohibitions:

  • Do not open the electrical components yourself (this voids Torks damage coverage)
  • Do not use a high-pressure water jet for cleaning (risk of water entering the motor)
  • Do not use alkaline or acidic detergents (risk of damage)

Correct cleaning method:

  • Use a damp cloth with a neutral detergent
  • Bring the bike indoors after rain or snow
  • Dry thoroughly with a clean towel

LOADING AND OVERLOADING

Overloading prohibition:

  • It is strictly forbidden to overload the e-bike
  • Overloading will damage the electrical components (deformation of plastic parts due to high temperatures, deterioration of the fuse holder from overheating)
  • This damage is not covered by Torks

Rear rack:

  • Maximum capacity: 25 kg — do not overload
  • Do not block reflectors or lights with luggage
  • Distribute luggage evenly on both sides of the rack
  • Do not attach a trailer to the rack
  • Make sure no straps or cords can get caught in the wheels
  • Do not modify the rack yourself

BATTERY AND CHARGING

Charging rules:

  • Charge the battery after every use (the sooner you charge, the longer the battery will last)
  • Do not leave the battery fully discharged
  • NEVER plug a power cable directly into the battery
  • USE ONLY THE SUPPLIED CHARGER specifically designed for this bike
  • Using a different charger voids Torks damage coverage

Charging conditions:

  • Charging temperature: 0°C to 45°C
  • Do not charge at temperatures below 0°C or above 45°C
  • Recharge once a month during storage periods
  • Charge in a clean, cool, dry, and ventilated area

Recycling:

  • Never dispose of batteries in household waste
  • They must be taken to an approved recycling centre

BATTERY CHARGER SAFETY

⚠️ IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS — TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK:

Strict prohibitions:

  • NEVER open the charger — there is high voltage inside
  • NEVER attempt to charge non-rechargeable batteries
  • Never let children handle the charger unsupervised

Correct use:

  • The charger is designed for indoor use only
  • If the plug shape does not match your power outlet, contact Torks
  • If the power cord is damaged, contact Torks immediately — do not attempt a repair

Supervision:

  • Persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience, should only use the charger under appropriate supervision
  • Children must be supervised to ensure they do not play with the charger

ELECTRICAL AND THERMAL SAFETY

  • Switch off the power if there is a problem with the electrical components and contact Torks immediately
  • WARNING: Do not touch hot surfaces after extended use (disc brakes, motor)
  • Wait until fully cooled before handling

IN CASE OF A PROBLEM

Contact Torks immediately if:

  • You notice a problem with the brakes
  • You encounter an electrical issue
  • The charger is not working properly
  • The charger power cord is damaged
  • You have any doubt about the condition of the bike
  • The bike has suffered an impact or fall
  • Safety-critical components need to be replaced

⚠️ WARNING 1: If safety-critical components need to be replaced, contact Torks immediately for original replacement parts.

⚠️ WARNING 2: Any unauthorised modification to the bike voids Torks damage coverage and releases Torks from all liability in the event of an accident or damage.

⚠️ WARNING 3: This manual is an integral part of the e-bike. If the bike is lent or transferred to another person, this manual must be provided with the bike.
